Up & down, up & down

Hola all, Today we left the small mountain village of La Faba after a fairly hectic day coming from Villa Franca with various hill climbs and downward scrambles. Villa Franca is a beautiful village set between the hills and the owner of the alberge we stayed in (Ave Felix) apparently started the first modern-day alberge by opening up his home to pilgrims and offering them accommodation and meals ...

Climb every mountain… la la la laaaahhh!

Hi Everyone, Well, yesterday was up the moutain with a gradual climb and today was down that very same mountain on the other side with a gradual descent! I loved every second and had two great walking days. It is amazing how different your Camino experience is if you are not battling sore knees, blisters and general ailments. Yesterday morning we left Astorga (the home of fine Spanish Chocolate!)...

Stadig oor die klippe!

Hi everyone, Well, today was a long and rocky road from Villar de Mazarife to Astorga and a hot and sunny day as well! We did 30,1km today, but some sadistic wise-guy decided to build a fancy, modern, long, never-ending footbridge over a railway line right before you enter Astorga and was it not for that and the peculiar twists and turns of the footpaths, we would probably have only done 29km. Ye...

Sunny & mild!

Hola all! Today we left the beautiful city of Leon and has reached (uhmmm... consulting book for name of village) the ´metropolis´ of Mazarife. Leon was great and the architecture amazing. We actually reached it early as we took a bus from Mansilla into the city due to Marieke´s feet being too sore to walk and the need for all three of us in fact for another rest day. Well, so much for a rest day...

The road is long!

Hola everyone, Today we arrived in El Burgo Ranero (after 27km walk) and will probably get to Mansilla tomorrow and then on Friday on to Leon for a rest day. The past few days have been cold and at times rainy and definitely a challenge to walk through mud when trying to do so in sandles! With the blister heel it is not practical to get foot in boot, so sandles will have to do for now. Anyone got...

Almost halfway

Hola all, I´m posting from a small room in the Santa Maria alberge in Carrion de los Condes. It is run by nuns and at the moment I´m in a room between the lovely cooking smells from the kitchen and the sounds of singing and guitar playing by the nuns. Peculiar places we find ourselves in. The walking has been tough the last few days. I last posted when we were in San Juan (I think!) and since ...

The Never Ending Road to San Juan

Hola everyone, What a day this has been! In fact it was a couple of trying days we´ve had since leaving Azofra two nights ago. Yesterday was cold, rainy and very muddy most of the way and we arrived a bit ´verlep´ at Redecilla from Azofra at about 2pm yesterday afternoon. It was the first day of rain we´ve had since starting our Camino from St Jean and Orisson on the 22nd of May. Today was cold a...
